Overview

Job Summary

The Maintenance Support Pilot - Rotor Wing will be primarily assigned to a Maintenance Facility to perform pre-induction maintenance flights, post maintenance flights, ground runs and ferry flights as directed by maintenance planning and maintenance leadership. Responsible for ensuring aircraft are airworthy and weather conditions are appropriate to conduct maintenance operational flights and repositioning ferry flights.  Responsible for briefing and/or supervising all associated personnel in aircraft operations as applicable.  Ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) as applicable, and a thorough knowledge of Air Methods policies and procedures. Responsible for ensuring Air Methods aircraft are returned to revenue service fully operational, and capable of performing the air medical mission in accordance with OEM guidelines and supplemental type certificates. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following:  

  • Operate all assigned aircraft in a safe and legal manner at all times (100%).
  • Perform Aircraft preservation ground runs.
  • Perform Aircraft post maintenance ground runs.
  • Completes pre-flight before every flight verifying the aircraft is in an airworthy condition. Perform a complete walk around of the aircraft prior to entering the cockpit for flight and upon completion of each flight.
  • Perform Aircraft post maintenance test flights for RTS (Return To Service) per OEM and regulatory requirements
  • Ferry aircraft as directed.
  • Responsible for ensuring all aircraft systems and installed equipment are airworthy and operationally functional when released for revenue service.
  • Final authority with regard to operations of aircraft and for the safety of crew, passengers, cargo and equipment.
  • Responsible for complying with PIC duties and responsibilities in the Air Methods GOM.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Regular scheduled attendance
  • Indicate the percentage of time spent traveling: > 50%

Subject to applicable laws and Air Method’s policies, regular attendance is an essential function of the position.  All employees must follow Air Methods’ employment practices and policies.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.           

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and two to five years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
  • 1200 hours total time
  • 500 hours PIC in category
  • 500 hours turbine time
  • 100 hours of cross-country flight time, at least 25 hours of which were at night
  • 50 hours actual or simulated instrument time in flight and in category 

Skills  

  • Capable of maintaining qualification in multiple aircraft

Computer Skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument Rating or ATP: Rotorcraft, Helicopter
  • Current Class I or II medical certificate
  • Preferred Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate
